Alarming Art is a community art space
located at the old Croydon fire station. Monkami Centre has
established Alarming Art to enable the Monkami artists, and the
community to come together to explore art, self- expression and
creativity.
Currently there are open art classes
running on Wednesday and Friday where the community can come along
and share their art, work on art pieces and be guided by Artist in
Residence Glenn Scolyer. There are rooms available for hire and an
exhibition area for art displays.
Alarming Art consist of three
buildings. Art in all its forms is running in the main building and
the Monkami Op Shop Plus is located in the second building. The
third building has been renamed the” Head in The Clouds Studio” and
is the studio space for several local artists who have moved their
art practices to Alarming Art.
Alarming Art has received funding
from Maroondah City Council to establish three community art
projects in the local area. These will take place between local
schools and Alarming Art resulting in the development of creative
pieces for exhibition and the broadening of community understanding
and awareness.
In addition, Alarming Art is also
running monthly art and craft markets for the local community
to enjoy. We have lots of interesting homemade items including
cards, jewellery, wood products, paintings and more. The dates for
the remainder of the year are Saturday November 12th and
December 10th from 10am – 3pm.
