Monkami is a not for profit disability service provider, which has been operating for 50 years. Presently there are 95 people from the eastern suburbs with an intellectual disability who utilise Monkami services.

The Mission Statement for Monkami states that its purpose is to provide each adult quality services and the opportunity for  individuals with an intellectual disability to develop skills that will enable them to live with the greatest degree of independence within their own community.

Monkami is very involved in the activities of the local community, always looking at new and innovative ways that clients can continue to develop and learn, and has strong links with the Maroondah City Council, the Maroondah community centres and neighbourhood houses and local businesses.

Monkami Centre is very proud to announce that we have received a Maroondah City Council Australia Day Award. Monkami received the Community Event of the Year Award for the performance of Titanic the Untold Story: Resunk.

It is a recognition of the individual achievement of each actor in the drama group, creating a character of their interest and telling their stories to an audience of over 500 people. The award also acknowledges the collaboration by Monkami with other community groups to achieve this wonderful result.

These are photos taken of James, Clare and two actors, Adam and Andrew receiving the nomination certificate and the award itself from the Mayor, Cr Peter Gurr on January 26th 2009.
